Prayer To Invite The Holy Spirit To Be Your Best Friend

Prayer To Invite The Holy Spirit To Be Your Best Friend

If you are feeling lonely or down because you don’t have a good friend or group of friends, you need to make the Holy Spirit your best friend first. I went through a period of time where I felt this way too. I didn’t have any close female friends to go to lunch with or to go shopping with. I tried to make friends with ladies at church and other places, but it just didn’t go well. I was kind of sad and feeling lonely, so I went to the Lord about it. He told me He knew how I felt. This surprised me. I didn’t know what He meant, and He said, “My Holy Spirit is ignored all the time. I’m a person, and you ignore Me all the time. I want to be your friend, and you ignore me all the time.”

I was so convicted in my spirit! I said, “Holy Spirit, I’m so sorry. You are a person. You want to be my friend. You’re right here. You want me to talk to You.” I realized that He’s a person. He’s a friend. He’s a helper, and we ignore Him all the time. He is teaching us how to be a good friend.

Our selfish, soulish, human nature wants our value in human companionship. In other words, if human people don’t like us or want to be our friends, we feel like we don’t have any value, that we’re being ignored. But God is saying to us that our value is in the companionship we have with God through His Holy Spirit first and foremost. And we cannot be a good human friend or understand what a good human friend is until we know what it’s like to be a true friend with the Holy Spirit.

So during that time, I was all by myself. I had no human friends. I was alone. All I had was God, and He brought me to the end of myself and the end of all people to fully and completely rely on Him. It taught me how He feels, that He has feelings too. He knows what it’s like to be ignored, to be alone because you’re not talking to Him or acknowledging that He’s there.

I apologized to the Holy Spirit for not being His friend and decided to team up with Him, to walk with Him and talk with Him, and I asked Him to teach me how to be a good friend.

Meaningful deep friendships with my husband, my daughter, my neighbor, and my team didn’t come until I learned how to be a true friend to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to be a true friend with me.  So if you are in this same situation, reach your hands out to Him, welcome Him with open arms, and pray this simple prayer.

Pray Out Loud

  • “Holy Spirit, I am so sorry for ignoring You. I repent. I’m asking You to forgive me. You are my helper and my best friend. I repent for looking to people to validate me. I repent for looking for people to give me my worth as a friend. Holy Spirit, I now look to You. You are my friend. My value and my worthiness come through You, Holy Spirit, the spirit of God. You were given to me as a gift from Jesus when He ascended into Heaven. Jesus even said to His disciples who felt they were going to be left all alone, ‘Don’t worry. It’s better that I should go to My Father, and He will send you His Holy Spirit who will be an even better friend to you. He will never leave you and never forsake you. He will help you.’

  • “Thank You for this gift, Father God. Thank You for this gift, King Jesus. Holy Spirit, right now I welcome You into my life. Holy Spirit, I invite You to be my best friend, and I will be Your best friend. Holy Spirit, I want to talk with You, walk with You, and ride in the car with You every day. Let’s talk. Let’s have fun together. Let’s talk about everything. I want Your wisdom. You are the best at everything, Holy Spirit. I trust You. Let’s be friends.

  • “Holy Spirit, teach me how to be a good friend to You so I can be a good friend to others. Holy Spirit, I know by faith that You’re here. You’re with me. You’re in me. You’re on me. You’re beside me. I command everything in my life to receive of You, listen to You, and honor You as my best friend, Holy Spirit. I invite You to my table. I invite You shopping. I invite You everywhere I go. I invite You when I sleep and when I’m awake. I even invite You in the bathroom, everywhere. I’m not ashamed. You know everything about me, and I want to know everything about You. Thank You, Holy Spirit. I receive You in Jesus’ name. Amen and amen.”

Decree Out Loud

  • “Did you hear the news? Holy Spirit is my best friend. He’s with me day and night. He talks with me and walks with me. He tells me things that I could never know, and I love Him.”
