What Are The Spiritual Basics and Purpose Of Our Dreams? As Christians, Why Is It Important That We Are Dreaming Daily?

Types Of Dreams:

1.) Soul Memory or Cellular Memory Dream (soulish)

2.) Demonic Dream

3.) Dream from The Holy Spirit

When you sleep, your soul and your spirit are always awake. You have three types of dreams.

1. Soulish Dreams – These come from stuff in your soul that is either from wounds or trauma from your past that gets stirred up, along with cell memories in your body that bring these things to the surface that the Holy Spirit wants you to deal with. The Holy Spirit may be bringing you to repentance and even prompting you to get these wounds healed in your soul because He loves you and wants you healed and whole – you prosper as your soul prospers. As a believer in Jesus Christ, your spirit man, one-third of you, is now in sinless perfection and Christ lives in your spirit man. You have a soul, and in that soul is your intellect, your reason, and your emotion. (Mind, will and emotions). Your soul is still needing sanctification from wounds, trauma and wrong thinking. The enemy can still manipulate you through those wounds in your soul. This is why when we receive Christ, the sanctification process begins to cleanse and heal your soul to match your spirit man and become more like Christ in your mind, will and emotions. This is why Christians can still have demons and unclean spirits, they have legal rights to attach to an unhealed soul. 2. Demonic Dreams – These come from demons and demonic assignments that are working against you. These demons only have access if you allow it and agree with it and have unhealed wounds in your soul. Demonic dreams must be cancelled in the name of Jesus as soon as you wake up unless you destroyed the demon in your dream. Then praise God. The more you SUIT UP in the Armor of God and take your Authority in Christ every day, the more authority you will have over anything demonic in your dreams!  If you had a demonic dream years ago, you can cancel it right now in Jesus’ name. 3. Holy Spirit Dreams – These dreams are messages, instruction, and confirmations from God for your life and for others’ lives and for the Kingdom of God in the earth.  All dreams from the Holy Spirit must be written down and dated. Then ask the Holy Spirit to give you guidance on that dream’s meaning and how to apply it.  He speaks in signs and symbols. This could take hours, days, weeks, and even months before you have the full revelation.  This is why we are told in scripture to keep asking, keep seeking and keep knocking and all will be given to you, that includes revelation.  Holy Spirit dreams can also be special items being handed to you in a dream for you to get a breakthrough, a key, a sword, a scroll, a lantern, etc. These items can all lead you to your next steps, and, of course, take you to the word of God. Having a baby in a dream means you are about to birth something ordained for your life’s purpose. If you are actually trying to conceive a child in the natural realm, you may also dream about your baby or child to come. If you see a certain prophet or teacher in that dream, it means you are to seek the teachings of that person for a next step in your life right now.  The Holy Spirit will never give you a dream that does not confirm in the word of God.  He is focused on your growth, deliverance, healing, fulfilling your purpose, helping others fulfill their purpose, pointing you to a closer relationship with God – and revealing plans and purposes to advance the Kingdom of God in the earth for Jesus Christ.  Remember, fear is NOT of God.  Holy Spirit will never give you a fearful dream.  He will give you gentle warnings and correction, but never fear.  He always speaks in signs and symbols, numbers, colors, animals, nature, objects and buildings etc.  For example people have dreams about tsunami’s and they think it’s a warning from God that a tsunami is going to come and destroy a place. However this is not what that means.  Tsunami in a dream is a sign of a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit coming in powerfully. Biblically a sign of water represents the Spirit of God. This is why we have to discern and ask the Holy Spirit for daily sharp discernment in what He is speaking in our dreams. (Here is a good prayer to ask for discernment.)

NOW please understand, your dream meanings from the Holy Spirit can include colors or numbers being shown to you, even other signs. YOU MUST FOCUS ON BIBLICAL MEANINGS of these things only. The Holy Spirit’s job is to guide you to the Word of God and deeper revelation of the Kingdom. Stick with BIBLICAL sources. (Get our biblical number meanings here.)

  • Strong’s Lexicon Concordance for Greek and Hebrew
  • Hebrew Alphabet with Alpha Numeric Meanings and Symbols
  • Journal

Dream Journal Basics:

  1. Time and date
  2. What activity were you doing in the dream?
  3. What location were you in?
  4. Any strangers? People you know?
  5. What symbols and signs stood out to you?
  6. Any colors stand out to you?
  7. Any vehicles or buildings?
  8. Any animals, birds, or insects?
  9. Any numbers or words?
  10. What is the instruction?
  11. Revelation? What insight? Direction?

Dreams help you in the daily sanctification process that Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are working in you to bring you healing, growth and prosperity for you to become more of the Image of Christ. So then you can walk in fullness of your purpose and do the works of Christ. Working toward the goal of your full Kingdom authority, in the works of Christ, in the prophetic, prosperity in health and wealth and operating in the glory of God here in the earth!

I found a teaching by Dr. Clarice Fluitt that explains this the best, here is a quote: “Let me tell you how it works. Let me make it so easy. There is a scripture in Proverbs 19:10, and you’ll find the more accurate rendering in the new English contemporary Bible. And it says, “It is a shameful thing for a servant to rule in the house of a king.” I began to realize that my body is a servant, my soul is like a queen, and my spirit is a king.

My queen has been under the influence of a servant all of my life until my King… until I got born again. And the scripture says, “Both he that sanctifies, and he that is sanctified has become one.”

My spirit and the spirit of God became one. A third of me lives in sinless perfection. The mystery of free will, soul, intellect, reason, and emotion is caught between what the servant says. It’s always led by five senses. What does it look like, smell like, taste like, feel like, sound like? These are the gates that the Bible says open all your gates so that the King of Glory can come in and go out.”

This is why we can command our soul to be healed and take authority over our flesh! This is why we SUIT UP in the Armor of God to protect our “gates” or “senses”.  Dreams help us and speed us up in this sanctification process.

A viewer asked for interpretation of the following dream on one of our Wednesday Q&A Live broadcasts:

Dream: I woke up to the number 117 being spoken loud.

Biblical Interpretation: As soon as you wake up from a sleep, especially in the morning, and if you hear something in the spirit as soon as you wake up, write it down because that is a very, very prophetic time. When you awaken in the morning, it’s a time of deliverance, a time of breakthrough – breaking through to the dawn. 

117: Number one means the one true God, and 17 is the victory of the overcomer in Christ. So you’ve had incredible breakthroughs, especially this past year, and the Lord is saying, “I, the Lord, have done this. Look to Me, the Lord, the one true God, the Great I am.” The number 17 means victory of the overcomer. God is pleased with you. You have overcome in Christ. And it’s true; you’ve done that. So just thank God now for that prophetic confirmation, that He was always there and never forsook you, and you were able to overcome through Christ Jesus. 

I can also look up a deeper meaning of the number 17 for you in scriptures. For some reason, the Lord is speaking to my spirit, and He’s saying Hebrews 11:7. Let’s see what this is. Hebrews 11:7 is all about you and your household being saved because of your faith. Noah was one of the heroes of the faith. 

Today is the 19th of February. The number 19 means exploits of faith because in the Book of Hebrews, there are 19 heroes of the faith. Noah is one of those 19 heroes of the faith. 

The number 117, the Lord is leading me to scripture on that. He spoke in my spirit and said to send you to Hebrews 11:7 – “By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. (ESV) 

Because Noah was considered right with God because of his faith, therefore, because of Noah’s faith, he and his household were saved. Hebrews 11 emphasizes the importance of faith and encourages Christians to grow in their faith. 

This is a word of knowledge to you from the Lord. Because of your faith, you, your children, and your children’s children are all saved by your faith. Now, you might all say, “Well, what about the prodigals?” What about the ones you’ve been praying for in your family to come to the Lord? What does the scripture say? Because of YOUR faith in Jesus Christ, your entire household will be saved whether they have faith or not. So the Lord is saying to you, you’ve got to specify when you pray who is in your household – your children, your grandchildren, etc. 

Say, “Father God, according to Your Word in Hebrews 11:7, I thank You for that word that because of Noah’s faith, he and his household were saved. Because of my faith, me and my household are saved, according to your word, and this is my household – me; my spouse, _______; my children, _______; their children and their children’s children, _______. Even name your pets and your animals – my dog, _______; my cat, _______; my horse, _______; etc. 

We are in the ark of the covenant in Christ Jesus now. We are lifted up above the judgment. Yes, the world is going through judgment right now. Who’s getting judged? The wicked! It’s the wicked that are wiped off the face of the earth and the righteous that inherit the earth, according to Psalm 37. And those of us who are in the ark of the covenant with Jesus Christ are lifted up above the judgment – you and your household. 

So if you’ve been lamenting and crying out in the night and praying for your unsaved loved ones, I want you to grab a hold of this scripture right now and say, “Because of my faith in Jesus Christ, according to Hebrews 11:7, me and my household are saved. We are lifted up above the judgment, and this is my household (name them before God), _______.” God has to perform His word.

Do you know Noah’s sons weren’t as righteous as Noah, but they got saved because of Noah’s faith. They got added to the ark of the covenant because of Noah’s faith. They got lifted up above the judgment because of Noah’s faith. 

The fact that it was spoken to you out loud in the morning hours, this is an answer directly from the Holy Spirit on how you are to pray. He led me to Hebrews 11:7. I go by the leading of the Holy Spirit. So should you.
